Do You Ever Struggle To Charge What Your Truly Worth?

The reasons are endless. But for those of us who really love what we do and are driven to impact peoples lives, there are some common culprits...

At the core, you really want to help people.

It is your calling, your mission…

You love it, so the money isn’t as important to you as actually helping people. 

Or maybe you’re struggling a little to get great clients, so you think it is better to charge less than get nothing at all. 

I totally get it. 

I did the same thing in my digital marketing agency for years… And I was getting COMPLETELY BURNT OUT!

Then I had an experience with my son that helped me relearn something I already KNEW WAS TRUE.

Let me tell you the quick story…

Several years ago now, when one of my sons turned 12, after months of begging and pestering, we broke down and bought him a smartphone. 

We gave him the whole spiel on how it was an expensive device.  It was a tool – not a toy… And he was finally old enough to respect the difference.

Two weeks later the screen was shattered.  He didn't seem all that upset. Until...

"My phone broke, I need another one." he said with a false sense of entitlement.

"Sure. That will just be $149."

"What.  I don't have that kind of money."

"Then I guess you don't have a phone."

“That's not fair, I really need a phone." 

(I specifically remember telling my children over and over that life isn’t fair. 🤔)

"And I need $149 + tax to go get you a new one." I said, "Maybe you can figure out a way to earn some money."

He did earn the money, and learned the value of those dollars.  

When HE bought the phone this time, he refused to use it until he got a case to protect it.  He didn’t have enough money so… We got some more 'cheap' labor.

He treated that phone like a fine piece of China. For an entire year he kept that thing like brand new.  No scratches on the phone. Nothing.  Why?

Because he invested in that phone.  He understood the VALUE he had GIVEN for the VALUE he had GOTTEN.

The Value Given Increases The Value Gotten

The value given increases the value gotten – assuming your product or service provides real value.

I was talking about a child earlier, But we are not any different as adults.  We have more appreciation for the things we have invested in.

The investment can be time, money, energy, or all three.  

And when we don’t invest… We don’t put forth the same effort.

And if we are not willing to do whatever it takes, then we drastically reduce our chances of winning.

This means that the people you are giving a break to, because you want to help – are the ones who do, and get, the least in return.

By not charging what you are worth you are hurting them. You are limiting their chances for success. 

That’s the dilemma.  

Here you are…

You want to, essentially, give away something that can literally transform peoples’ lives.  

Here is the thing… You are not just selling a simple service. You are essentially selling a new life. Really!

But you can’t do the work for them. 

You know the before and after difference of what you do. You know the impact it has. They don’t just level up their life with your services and programs… They become new people.

Let me ask you a very serious question.

What is saving a life worth?

Right! Are you starting to see where I’m coming from?

And, for the best results… They need to have some skin in the game. That way they will do whatever it takes to get the full value of their investment.

So, if you really want to help people make a lasting change in their life.  To literally change their life… 

You don’t just have to charge what you are worth.

You have to charge them what THEY are worth.
